What a 2-2-3 schedule looks like
Over a two-week cycle each parent has the children for seven days, and neither goes more than three days without seeing them. Week one: Parent A has Monday–Tuesday, Parent B has Wednesday–Thursday, Parent A has Friday–Sunday. Week two flips: Parent B Monday–Tuesday, Parent A Wednesday–Thursday, Parent B Friday–Sunday. Then the cycle repeats.
Parents choose it because the gaps are short, which many find easier for younger children. The cost is more exchanges — three a week — so the arrangement relies on smooth, predictable handovers.
Before you enter it
Agree the details that the calendar needs, ideally in writing:
- Which parent starts the cycle and on what date
- The exchange time and place for each handover (for example, after school at the school gate; Sunday 17:00 at Parent B's home)
- How weekends alternate, since the three-day block flips every week
- What happens on public holidays and school breaks — many plans override the rotation for those
How it works in CoParent
In CoParent a custody block is an all-day date range assigned to one parent, and an exchange is a separate event with a time and location. The Repeat weeks option copies a block to the same days in following weeks, which suits patterns that are identical every week. A 2-2-3 rotation alternates on a two-week cycle, so you enter the blocks for both weeks of the cycle and extend the calendar as you go.
Keeping it running
Once the rotation is on the calendar, changes go through swap requests rather than edits: tap the day, request or offer a swap, and the other parent accepts or declines in one tap. Mark each exchange on time, late or missed so the record reflects what actually happened. Both parents see the same days, the same swaps and the same attendance.
This guide describes common arrangements and how to enter them in CoParent. It is not legal advice. Your parenting plan or court order governs your schedule; for anything about the agreement itself, speak with a qualified attorney or mediator.
Steps
Entering the first two weeks of a 2-2-3 rotation in CoParent takes six custody blocks and the exchanges between them.
- Create or join the family
One parent creates the family and adds the children; the other joins with the invite code so both see the same calendar.
- Add week one, block by block
Open Calendar, tap +, choose Custody, pick the parent and set the date range: Mon–Tue for Parent A, Wed–Thu for Parent B, Fri–Sun for Parent A. Leave Repeat weeks at 1.
- Add week two, flipped
Repeat for the second week with the parents swapped: Mon–Tue Parent B, Wed–Thu Parent A, Fri–Sun Parent B.
- Add the exchanges
Add an Exchange event for each handover with its time and location — for example Wednesday 15:30, school gate. Exchanges that fall on the same weekday every week can use Repeat weeks.
- Extend the cycle
Add the next two-week cycle the same way as the calendar fills, or when you sit down to plan the month.
- Handle changes as swaps
When a day needs to move, tap it and choose Request swap or Offer swap. The other parent answers in one tap and the change is recorded.
Frequently asked questions
Is 2-2-3 the same as 2-2-5-5?
No. 2-2-5-5 keeps the same two weekdays with each parent every week and alternates five-day blocks around them, so children have fewer exchanges. Both are 50/50 schedules; which suits your family is a decision for the parents and, where needed, a mediator or attorney.
Can I repeat the whole two-week pattern automatically?
CoParent's Repeat weeks copies a block to the same days in following weeks, which fits patterns that are identical every week. Because 2-2-3 alternates, enter both weeks of the cycle and extend as you go.
Which parent gets the first weekend?
That is set by your parenting plan or agreement. CoParent records whatever you enter; it does not decide.
CoParent is a coordination tool for parents. It is not legal advice and does not replace a lawyer, mediator or court process.
